Since meeting her my freshmen year in the fall 2004, I have noticed her drive and determination to now only gain knowledge and experience from her classes but to also step into them as through she was working the real world. She represents one of many bright Public Relations students graduating on May 16 are really are the future of Public Relations. Always ready and willing to help out a friend, she will carry our her many lessons learned at Rowan and translate them as she climbs the corporate ladder of Public Relations.

Leadership Studies
Leadership Studies is an interesting because at many different univerisities they are courses on leadership but houses in various academic colleges such as Education, Business, and Arts&Sciences. I wanted to take the opportunity to show a variety of different institutions that have Leadership majors, minors, and concentrations.
One of the most impress programs in leadership comes from the University of Richmond. There is an entire academic school devoted to Leadership Studies. The Jepson School of Leadership Studies allows for student engage in leadership. It is the only school it’s kind the country! Sadly the school is only undergraduate, so future graduate students wanting to studying at Richmond are out of luck they wanted a Masters in Leadership.
Kansas State University features an office of Leadership Studies and Programs, where an academic minor is available to interested studies.
The University of South Dakota is has an minor in leadership studies that is housed at the Farber Center of Civic Leadership. (No relationship to me but I thought it was really cool!) They offer an undergraduate minor in Leadership Studies along with graduate programs in Political Science and Public Administration with an emphasis in Leadership Studies.
Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland offers a Leadership Studies minor.
Boise State University in Boise, Idaho offers a Leadership Studies minor through the College of Business and Economics. It is a 21 credit minor.
There are so many other institutions that have Leadership Studies programs. This is just a hightlight of some that are growing and thriving at their respected institutions.
Campus Career Services
Rowan’s Career and Academic Planning (CAP) Center is one of the best resources students can take advantage of at Rowan if they hope to make in the real world.
This service gives an opportunity for any student to come in for a variety of services that include resume building, interviewing, academic advisement, career exploration, and everything else in between that goes into the process of funding a job post-graduation.
One very special service the CAP Center offers is assistance with finding internships. Our professor tell us that internships help you gain experience in the field. Internships are important and they are all over the place. If you need help, this is one resource that could help you land your dream experience.
Rowan’s CAP Center is linked up to eCampusRecruiter. It is a website that posts your resume up and allows employees to look at and allows you to possible land a job, internship, or co-op position.
Major and career exploration that could assist students in researches what professions could go along with different majors. The page is divided by academic colleges and majors and links to information that is important to check out!
Most colleges have similar services to the CAP Center. Check out the websites for Virginia Tech and University of Pennsylvania. At Virginia Tech they offer a service called VT CareerLink. This assists Virginia Tech students to link up with alumni that volunteer to put their time to answer questions on internships, co-op, and job positions. The advice is precious for career VT students because the alumni understand what this students are going through.
At UPenn their career services now offers helpful podcasts to students. Two podcasts including tips about facebook and an uncoming career fair.
I also encourage all of you to check out the blog of Renee Ernst, who is a fellow classmate in my online journalism class! Her blog is fantastic and offers a lot of additional information about the CAP Center.
Good luck in your job searches!
Committees
Rowan’s University Senate a body of facility, administrators and other influential employees of the university. This body is very simple to the set up of the SGA’s Senate.
It is the job of the SGA Senate Chair to work and stay in contact with the President of the University Senate to place students on committees that affect the university.
I have served a variety of different committees they include Curriculum Committee, Food Committee, Recruitment, Admissions, and Retention Committee, Student Relations Committee, Late Night Task Force. All are very different but extremely influential.
The interaction between students, faculty, and administration is very important at any university. It can only make the university better connected. I have honestly met so many different people through these committees and I feel as a student I should know my university faculty as a whole. Its all about networking in my opinion.
The key is getting more students involved! These committees thrive on the student input and if you voice heard come by the SGA Suite and talk to our Senate Chair about getting on a committee for next semester!
Remember students have the power to create change!
