Campus Career Services
Rowan’s Career and Academic Planning (CAP) Center is one of the best resources students can take advantage of at Rowan if they hope to make in the real world.
This service gives an opportunity for any student to come in for a variety of services that include resume building, interviewing, academic advisement, career exploration, and everything else in between that goes into the process of funding a job post-graduation.
One very special service the CAP Center offers is assistance with finding internships. Our professor tell us that internships help you gain experience in the field. Internships are important and they are all over the place. If you need help, this is one resource that could help you land your dream experience.
Rowan’s CAP Center is linked up to eCampusRecruiter. It is a website that posts your resume up and allows employees to look at and allows you to possible land a job, internship, or co-op position.
Major and career exploration that could assist students in researches what professions could go along with different majors. The page is divided by academic colleges and majors and links to information that is important to check out!
Most colleges have similar services to the CAP Center. Check out the websites for Virginia Tech and University of Pennsylvania. At Virginia Tech they offer a service called VT CareerLink. This assists Virginia Tech students to link up with alumni that volunteer to put their time to answer questions on internships, co-op, and job positions. The advice is precious for career VT students because the alumni understand what this students are going through.
At UPenn their career services now offers helpful podcasts to students. Two podcasts including tips about facebook and an uncoming career fair.
I also encourage all of you to check out the blog of Renee Ernst, who is a fellow classmate in my online journalism class! Her blog is fantastic and offers a lot of additional information about the CAP Center.
Good luck in your job searches!
RU Engaged? Part 1 Graduate Education
This past Monday’s RU Engaged series attempted to bring students out to a discussion in involving members from the university’s faculty and administration. RU Engaged is series of conversations that will lead to future changes that will impact the university. This project will occur over the next three semesters. This semester’s focus is called, “Crafting our Future Together: Vision 2017.”
This was the second of four discussions held throughout the spring 2008 semester. The topics discussed included graduate education, West Campus, service learning, academic advisement, and student affairs.
I did not know what I was getting myself into when I sat down at the table marked graduate education. First off, I was asked if I had read President Farish’s “White Paper.” I did not realize that there was required reading. All my table could discuss was that our graduate programs are either very competitive or not so competitive. The big question at the table was whether we should be offended because our university wants to compare our university to the graduate school of Ivy League universities such as Harvard and Princeton.
I just didn’t get the idea of people being so angry at event that should bring us all together. I mean I was one of less then ten students at these events they barely had more then 70 people in attendance.
I am hoping to gain a new perspective about possibly attending Rowan’s Graduate School. It was a comment calling students that get their courses for free a “drain on the university.”
Just the idea that someone would think this is just crazy! I don’t think that students who work for university should have to pay for their graduate and doctoral educations because they are already working for the university. It’s really just a great advantage for those who are fortunate enough to have such opportunities.
I honestly don’t know what the university will do when it comes to the future of graduate education.
Only time can tell!
