The College Journey
I believe that since creating this blog that awareness has been brought about the importance of campus involvement. Whether at Rowan or at other institutions.
Look at the six presidents that I interviewed about their personal journeys they took to get into the leadership roles they took on. I have never understood what it felt like to be president of collegiate organization. However I do know that within leadership you must be someone people could look up to but at the same time serving others.
I think the best thing that came out of these blog was the connections I made with people. I wanted to tell people’s stories and show students, Rowan and elsewhere. I thought this blog could not only help people but inspire others to get involved and create change on their campus.
I think I was able to connect people and show that college is a place to flourish and grow. You only have one life and you have live life to it’s fullest.
College is the best time of our lives!
The future of this blog will serve the same purpose but I would like to expand the interviews and look at what higher education administrator do. Learn about campus cultures different from Rowan’s. I hope to keep this blog for another year or so and just see how it can grow.

Talk Shows, would you host one?
Yesterday I got an interesting offer to host a talk show on celebrity gossip.
I didn’t know what to do because as a person who loves watching E! News, Chelsey Handler, and well anything on Bravo, I am a huge advocate for it. But I honestly didn’t know if I should do it.
I am a person that has had little experience hosting a talk show. I was given an opportunity though Rowan After Hours to host “The Gavin Show.”
My show was a look at celebrities and local news. I did not want to focus the show on Rowan news and gossip it could have only led me to trouble.
I feel like I would like to get a little bit more hosting experience and then after that occurs maybe I would consider taking the talk show stage.
I know I am not Oprah, Maury, Tyra, Ellen, or the ladies of The View, but I think it might be fun.
But I think many people would make wonderful talk show hosts. I encourage any one at Rowan who wants to get some experience to go join RTN or Rowan Radio. If you’re not at Rowan and at another college, join the college television station and radio station.
Trust me, you’ll want to do it again after your first show!
Anjelica Leonard
Anjelica Leonard has gone from community college to now a future graduate from the Masters in Higher Education Administration Program. On May 15, she will graduate from Rowan University’s Graduate School.
Anjelica is a prime example of someone who was extemely involved throughout her education. She is a sister of Alpha Sigma Alpha, contributor to the Leadership Studies concentration, worked in the International Student Services office, worked on programming boards, and joined professional organizations NASPA and ACPA.
I hope you gain new insight about her journey from community college to a graduate student.
All of us have a story…this Anjelica’s and how she will take on the world of higher education! Read more »

SGA Elections gone wrong!
This is one big year within the realm of national politics. We are electing a new president and it is making people all over the country to get out and vote. Democrats, Republicans, and yes Independents too are coming out in large numbers because they know this will deeply affect all of us.
Just as important national politics are the world of collegiate elections in my opinion are just as important because those students are the representatives that will serving your best interests in the coming year.
Student Governments across the country are electing new officers into leadership roles that will define their university for 2008-2009 academic year.
Some Student Government elections do not run so smoothly. There is sometimes serious controversy that goes on some campus. At the University of South Florida, candidates were seen ripping down campaign posters and bribing fellow students.
Check out this video of John Constantinide, a graduate student at University of Miami who is a former Student Government Senate Speaker, discuss possible election violations of candidates.
Very entertaining.
Sean Clark, who wrote a post for Fire’s The Torch. It’s an interest idea of SGA Elections. It’s very important to get a different perspective of SGA Elections from institution to institution.
Check out the websites for University of Maryland’s SGA Elections and University of South Alabama’s SGA.
Sodexho Follow-Up
The wonderful staff of Sodexho have really been awesome the last two weeks. I would like to just personally put it out there that the issues that our dining services have faced are not just at Rowan but rather at other universities throughout the country.
Lauren Franchetti, the Resident Dining Director was kind enough to get back to me today and was able to answer a number of questions that I had regarding dining services.
The stealing of food from the Marketplace can be seen as a direct result of it being an “buffet style” dining hall.
Franchetti said, “Our policy has been to stop customers (who were trying to take out food and china) at the door and let them know that they were not allowed to take anything.”
Trust me if your university is ordering new china in October, its a huge problem!
As I discussed in my last blog local universities have adopted new policies for their dining halls. Temple and Drexel University do have rules that do not allow bags of any kind into their dining facilities.
I don’t think this rule will ever come into affect at Rowan but if more and more money is lost, who knows!
Just respect the university in all aspects because at end of the day your meal plans could be affected for next year.
As the Beach Boys stated, “Be True to Your School.”
Leadership Quote of the Week
“Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success; leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall.” – Stephen R. Covey
Stephen R. Covey is the author of “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.” It was a book I read during my freshman year in my Leadership Theory course as part of my Leadership Studies Concentration.
Covey is a leading expert in the field of leadership and management. Any student who is involved should pick up this book! It’s amazing!
